چکیده

Aim: Thoracotomy is among the most painful surgical incisions and causes severe acute pain in postoperative period. Many analgesic methods have been suggested for thoracotomy treatment. Thoracic epidural analgesia (TEA) thoracic paravertebral block (TPVB) are common regional post-thoracotomy pain. In this study, we aimed to compare efficacy side effects of TEA TPVB applied analgesia.
Material Method: After ethical committee approval, retrospectively analyzed records patients, who underwent thoracotomy, received or between 01.01.2019 01.01.2021. Visual analog scale (VAS) scores patients treatment 24 hours postoperatively after application were evaluated.
Results: Data 474 found eligible analysis. Demographic data VAS scores, patient satisfaction, additional requirements not statistically significant groups (p>0.05). Nausea-vomiting, hypotension, headache, itching, sweating was significantly higher group when compared (p

Thoracic paravertebral block after thoracotomy: comparison of three different approaches.

BACKGROUND Thoracic paravertebral block (TPVB) is a regional block technique increasingly used for the early management of post-thoracotomy pain. We compare three different postoperative analgesic approaches based on TPVB: anesthetist, anesthetist plus surgeon, and surgeon. MATERIALS AND METHODS We randomized 54 patients undergoing elective thoracotomy to three different postoperative analges...

Thoracic Epidural and Paravertebral Analgesia

Thoracotomies are among the most painful of surgical incisions. Postoperatively, the movement of the chest with each breath increases the pain, and patients often “splint” to the point of hypercapnea or hypoxia. Substantial analgesia is required to avoid postoperative respiratory complications, but heavy opioid use blunts the respiratory drive and may itself be associated with postoperative com...

Paravertebral block versus thoracic epidural for patients undergoing thoracotomy.

BACKGROUND Operations on structures in the chest (usually the lungs) involve cutting between the ribs (thoracotomy). Severe post-thoracotomy pain can result from pleural (lung lining) and muscular damage, costovertebral joint (ribcage) disruption and intercostal nerve (nerves that run along the ribs) damage during surgery. Poor pain relief after surgery can impede recovery and increase the risk...

In patients undergoing thoracic surgery is paravertebral block as effective as epidural analgesia for pain management?

A best evidence topic in cardiac surgery was written according to a structured protocol. The question addressed was: in patients undergoing thoracic surgery is paravertebral block (PVB) as effective as epidural analgesia for pain management? Altogether >184 papers were found using the reported search, seven of which represented the best evidence to answer the clinical question. All studies agre...

Combined paravertebral and intrathecal vs thoracic epidural analgesia for post-thoracotomy pain relief.

BACKGROUND Although thoracic epidural analgesia (TEA) is considered the gold standard for post-thoracotomy pain relief, thoracic paravertebral block (PVB) and intrathecal opioid (ITO) administration have also been shown to be efficacious. We hypothesized that the combination of PVB and ITO provides analgesia comparable with that of TEA. METHODS After local ethics committee approval, 84 consec...
